Overview
An established food manufacturing business is seeking an experienced Evening Hygiene Manager to lead and develop the site hygiene function during evening operations. This role is critical in ensuring the highest standards of hygiene, sanitation, and food safety are maintained across production areas, in line with regulatory, customer, and internal standards.
The successful candidate will manage the hygiene team, drive continuous improvement in cleaning standards, and ensure the site is fully compliant for production start-up each day.
Key Responsibilities
Hygiene Operations & Leadership
* Lead and manage the evening hygiene team to ensure all cleaning activities are completed effectively and on schedule between 4pm and 12am.
* Plan, allocate, and supervise daily hygiene tasks, ensuring sufficient resources and coverage.
* Ensure production areas, equipment, and facilities meet required hygiene and food safety standards prior to start-up.
Food Safety & Compliance
* Ensure compliance with HACCP, BRCGS (or equivalent), and all relevant food safety and hygiene regulations.
* Maintain hygiene documentation, records, and verification checks.
* Support internal and external audits and implement corrective actions where required.
Continuous Improvement
* Identify opportunities to improve cleaning processes, chemicals, equipment, and team efficiency.
* Drive a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and high performance within the hygiene team.
* Work closely with Technical, Production, and Engineering teams to optimise cleaning schedules and minimise downtime.
People Management
* Recruit, train, and develop hygiene operatives and supervisors.
* Conduct performance reviews, manage attendance, and address disciplinary issues when necessary.
* Promote a strong health & safety culture and ensure team compliance with site policies and procedures.
Health & Safety
* Ensure safe working practices are followed at all times, including chemical handling, PPE usage, and confined space protocols.
* Conduct risk assessments and toolbox talks as required.
Candidate Profile
Essential:
* Proven experience in a hygiene management or supervisory role within food manufacturing.
* Strong knowledge of food safety standards (HACCP, BRCGS, retailer codes of practice).
* Experience leading and managing teams in a manufacturing environment.
* Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills.
Desirable:
* Formal qualification in food safety, hygiene, or a related discipline.
* Experience in chilled or high-risk food manufacturing environments.
* Knowledge of CIP systems, industrial cleaning processes, and hygiene chemicals.
