Your future role
Take on a new challenge and apply your Electrical systems knowledge as a technical team member in a new cutting‑edge field. You’ll report to the Train manager and work alongside our active, highly resourceful colleagues. Day‑to‑day you’ll work closely with teams across the business, carrying out testing and commissioning activities on Dart+ trains in accordance with pre‑written test and commissioning procedures and more.
You’ll specifically take care of all coupling activities, static and dynamic testing and warranty issues and modifications.
Responsibilities
Develop and increase knowledge of all Dart+ train functions and sub‑systems.
Troubleshoot all warranty defects and provide technical assistance on the TSSSA contract.
Upload software and downloads to carry out critical asset repairs and upgrades.
Apply special processes such as crimping and torque tightening.
Functionally test train‑borne systems with minimal supervision using a variety of techniques and methods, including the use of computer‑based diagnostics systems.
Provide technical support to the depot teams in the provision of fault‑finding expertise and assistance with train repair and maintenance.
Undertake test runs to assist in fault finding and resolution of faults, in particular the close‑out of repeat failures.
Assist in component change‑outs and failure reporting for ESG and reliability growth teams.
Liaise with ESG and specialist engineers as necessary, gathering technical information to enable resolution of issues with trains, procedures, materials or components.
Carry out all duties in accordance with the Traincare Centre quality and safety procedures.
Drive company vehicles for depot operational or technical related work such as breakdowns or occasional travel to other sites; this is requested only of current eligible and authorised technicians as agreed with relevant site TCM & HRM.
Carry out overhead isolations as required.
Top‑up sanding systems of rail vehicles.
Perform static / functional and performance tests.
Review and rectify test specifications and documentation for functional tests.
Continuously improve processes and procedures.
Coach and develop other technicians as required.
Record all service orders, activities, and time taken to complete tasks.
Attend regular team briefings and communicate any relevant matters.
Report accidents and incidents through the appropriate channels.
All about you
Qualified in a Technical Discipline – Qualified Electrician FETAC Level 6 National Craft Certificate (NCC) is required.
Experience of electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanics.
Experience working within a process / production environment.
Understanding work instructions and following procedures.
Ability to read detailed electrical drawings and cable schedules.
Applying electrical modifications.
Informing files of progress of modifications.
Ability to fault‑find/diagnose issues on installations while testing.
Adaptability and flexibility.
Working knowledge of quality and health and safety standards and systems preferable.
Crimping and torque tightening experience.
Efficient in mechanical and electrical coupling.
Uploading of software.
IT literate with some knowledge of Microsoft software packages.
Good organisational skills.
