Job Description:
Senior Psychologist required for locum with Irish Prison Service, Portlaoise Prison, Co. Laois.
Portlaoise prison is a high-security facility for adult males, including those linked with subversive crime and sent from the Special Criminal Court.
As a Senior Psychologist, you will be responsible for conducting and supervising assessments, developing behaviour monitoring procedures, and contributing to multidisciplinary Care and Management Planning. You will engage in evidence-based psychological interventions as recommended in the Care and Management Plan.
The role involves assessing and intervening with individuals with various mental health difficulties, offence-specific needs, and other presenting issues such as developmental disorders, cognitive decline, and cultural diversity. Interventions include group and individual evidence-based therapies.
You will have regular contact with community agencies and work with families and carers. Where appropriate, provide community interventions to support transitions from custody to community settings. The service also supports the broader IPS organization through consultation, training, and education.
Essential qualifications and competencies:
* Be eligible for graduate membership of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) or the British Psychological Society (BPS).
* Hold a postgraduate professional qualification in Clinical Psychology recognized by PSI, or in Counselling Psychology recognized by PSI. Applicants outside Ireland must obtain a statement of equivalence from the Department of Health.
* Minimum of 2 years postgraduate experience as a Psychologist.
Desirable but not essential:
* Experience with forensic populations and offence-related difficulties.
* Experience in providing consultation, education, and support to multidisciplinary colleagues.
* Additional therapeutic or research qualifications.
