Senior Scientist - Food Ingredients & Innovation
A growing, innovation‑led ingredients business is looking to bring in a Senior Scientist to support R&D and scale‑up across food, beverage, and supplement applications.
This is a hands‑on role suited to someone who enjoys working in the lab, leading projects, and translating technical concepts into commercially viable ingredient solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Support the scientific roadmap and broader innovation strategy
Design and execute lab experiments to support product development
Lead and mentor junior scientists and technicians
Develop and optimise formulations for nutrients and bioactives
Work across encapsulation and delivery technologies (e.g. coating, controlled release, emulsions)
Analyse and interpret experimental data to assess performance and stability
Maintain accurate documentation, reports, and technical records
Support development of technical materials, data packages, and documentation
Assist with pilot trials, scale‑up, and process transfer into manufacturing
Identify formulation or process risks and implement solutions
Support validation work including shelf life and stability testing
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams across innovation, operations, quality, and commercial
Provide technical support for customer projects and troubleshooting
Participate in project meetings and innovation reviews
Maintain lab safety, organisation, and best practices
Contribute to continuous improvement of lab methods and workflows
Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends
Requirements
MSc or PhD in Food Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field
2-6+ years of experience in ingredients, functional foods, or supplement R&D
Strong hands‑on lab experience in formulation and product development
Experience with encapsulation, emulsions, powders, or delivery systems preferred
Strong experimental design and data analysis skills
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment
Good problem-solving and critical thinking ability
Strong written and verbal communication skills
