Abbott Ireland Nutrition Division – Cootehill Cavan
Abbott Nutrition produces infant formulae under the brands 'Similac' and 'Gain' at the Cootehill facility.
The plant processes 500,000 litres of skim milk per day from roughly 1,000 dairy farms in Ireland and Northern Ireland, and the finished products are distributed to Europe, South-East Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and Canada.
Established in ****, it is the largest powder manufacturing facility for infant formulae worldwide within the Abbott Corporation.
Supply Chain Manager
The Supply Chain Manager reports to the Site Director and has overall responsibility for the plant supply-chain function, including planning, purchasing and warehousing activities that support forecasted production plans and plant strategy.
Primary Function
As a member of the site senior management team, the Supply Chain Manager will provide overall leadership, direction and management for the Materials function, develop talent and engagement, manage suppliers, ensure compliance with local and Abbott regulations, and drive efficiencies across the plant supply-chain.
Responsibilities
Provide overall leadership, direction and management for the Materials function to meet plant deliverables and drive efficiencies.
Lead the logistics and supply-chain team toward meeting performance targets, KPIs and inventory goals.
Pro-actively develop talent and create career paths for team members, ensuring succession planning.
Maintain positive engagement levels within Materials and broader site teams.
Collaborate with site leadership to meet senior stakeholder expectations for the Cootehill site.
Manage the supplier base and coordinate procurement of all purchased materials to support production and minimise product cost, within Abbott Code of Conduct and applicable laws.
Develop and nurture relationships with other manufacturing sites, corporate functions and ANSC Materials groups as relevant to purchasing and supply-chain activities.
Maintain key sourcing data and liaise with external bodies and suppliers.
Ensure compliance with local (ISO) and Abbott rules, policies and regulations for warehouse, shipping and purchasing.
Actively contribute to the development of the purchasing strategy within the ANSC group and communicate this to Cootehill personnel.
Implement plant scheduling using the Nutrition S&OP process and promote close links between the plant and remote supply-chain staff.
Plan and control all warehouse practices, including goods receipt, storage, movements, shipping and distribution, ensuring compliance with cGMP, safety and QA policies.
Monitor and control all plant purchasing activities to ensure compliance with policies and budgets, developing Plans of Purchase and vendor development strategies.
Education Required
Bachelor's Degree.
Completion of a suitable course covering Supply-Chain Management, Purchasing, Negotiating skills, Planning, Warehousing and Shipping, and/or 5 years' experience in Supply-Chain/Materials.
People-management training and experience as a prerequisite.
Knowledge
5 to 6 years experience in a manufacturing industry, in a production, purchasing or production-planning function.
Experience with a made-to-order operation is desirable.
Knowledge of legal/procedural duties related to importation/exportation.
5 years experience in a management position.
Strong communication skills.
Accountability & Scope
Responsible for purchasing all materials for the Cootehill plant operation, with a direct impact on product cost, plant performance and customer service.
The scheduling of the plant influences KPIs, efficiency and service levels; warehousing and shipping are regulated areas with high impact on customers and quality.
Deviation from specification or failure to take corrective action can lead to serious financial and quality consequences.
