You will bring your technical expertise to our dynamic software development teams.You will be responsible for leading the team in making key technical decisions, managing their career growth, and providing mentorship.Leveraging modern software development practices, you will ensure the delivery of business value at a fast pace. You will be accountable for the core technical decisions made for your team and the products you work on, driving engineering excellence through software craftsmanship practices. This role is crucial as we transform the BPP Education Group and its subsidiaries to become more customer-centred, design and data-informed, and build products that meet and exceed our users’ needs across our education ecosystem .As such, you will be responsible for:Ensure the execution of the technical vision aligns with business goals.Coach and mentor engineers in best-in-class software engineering techniques, including clean coding, pair programming, technical debt management, and leveraging cloud-native solutions.Manage a team of 2-3 software and QA engineers; recruit for the team when appropriate.Collaborate with peers in architecture, project management, and other disciplines to assess the technical feasibility of business requirements and convert those requirements into deliverables for the engineering team.Contribute to and evolve internal software engineering practices and standards as the team scales.Deliver and review technical solutions to satisfy business and product requirements.Stay up to date with industry best practices, new technologies, and emerging trends.What we’re looking forTo be successful in this role you will need to have a proven track record in the following areas:Skills, experience & qualifications required – EssentialProven experience as a senior or higher-level software engineer working in an agile environment.Deep knowledge of modern full stack and cloud technologies such as Typescript, React, Node.js, Next.js, and AWS.Expertise in test-driven development practices using frameworks such as Jest, Cypress, React Testing Library, and Playwright.Expert knowledge of platforms such as Git, GitHub Actions, Jira, and Confluence.Experience mentoring, coaching, and managing a diverse group of engineers.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to embody a pragmatic mindset to deliver high-quality, lean solutions to maximize business value.Skills, experience & qualifications required – DesirableExperience using Infrastructure as Code tools such as CloudFormation, Terraform, and Pulumi.Experience building and optimizing CI/CD pipelines, and production and non-production environments.A security-first mindset when designing and developing solutions.Please note that the successful candidate will be required to undergo a Basic DBS check.BPP Education Group are proud to be a Disability Confident employer so if you need any reasonable adjustments for the interview process, please just let us know!BPP Education Group actively promotes equality of opportunity for all with the right mix of talent, skills and potential, and welcomes applications from a wide range of candidates.
