Overview

We would like to invite applications for the following 39 hour, 12 month fixed term contract role, HealthCare Assistant. Supported Living Kilkenny. IWA is committed to promoting, maintaining and adding to our diverse and inclusive work environment.

As a Programme Assistant you will be expected to provide personal and activity-based assistance to the members of the Supported Living Services in a way which enhances their independence, dignity and self-esteem as members of the local community. For the successful implementation of this role there are several relationships which should be fostered and developed: primarily these will be with the members and their advocates. Close liaison is also required with the Services Coordinator, Service Support Officer, colleagues and volunteers, as well as the members’ families. Links will also be made with relevant voluntary and statutory agencies and educational institutes.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

* To support individual members to maximise their potential using a person-centred approach.
* Assisting members in all aspects of personal care and daily living as identified by them.
* Supporting participation in social activities outside the home as identified by the members.
* Supporting independent living skills training as identified by the person.
* To be a key worker and advocate for the members.
* Completing as required the normal range of duties associated with the upkeep of a residence.
* Ensuring that your work and interaction with others is such that it promotes and enhances the independent living capacity of the people using the service.
* To be available to work flexible hours, i.e. mornings, evenings, overnights.
* Implementing the action planning and reporting systems within the parameters set by the Service Co-ordinator.
* Actively ensure that standards and practices regarding health and safety are fully adhered to in all areas of the service. Record and report any incidents/accidents to the Service Co-ordinator.
* To work in a confidential manner respecting people’s right to privacy and your role in their home.
* To comply with IWA\'s Parent and Ancillary Safety Statements and any legislative duties set out in current Health and Safety and Fire Safety Legislation
* Ensure that your responsibilities to safeguard children and adults from abuse or harm is a core aspect of your role and that IWA’s Safeguarding Policies and Procedures are adhered to.
* Carry out other duties and/or responsibilities which may be assigned to you from time to time
* Record and report any hazards, accidents or potential incidents to the Service Coordinator/Service Support Officer


Person Specification


Training, Experience and Qualifications

* A minimum of 5 completed modules of QQI level 5 (Major Award) Care Support or similar qualification is essential. QQI Major Awards that are deemed relevant to IWA are:
* Community Health Services (to include minor components Safety Health at Work and Care Provision Practice)
* Health Service Skills (to include minor components in Workplace Statutory Policies Procedures and Care Skills and Care Support)
* Health Care Support (to include minor components Safety Health at Work and Care Skills and Care Support)
* Category B Driving Licence is required


Knowledge and Skills

* Strong computer and administration skills an advantage
* Previous experience of working with people with disabilities is desirable
* Understanding of the social model of disability and the concepts of person centred planning an advantage
* Understanding of independent living is desirable
* Demonstrate excellent communication skills with a good level of spoken and written English

Availability

* This is a set roster that is implemented from the employees start date and it rolls on a 4-week basis.
* Week 1 May include Days / Splits
* Week 2 May include 2 long shifts and weekend on
* Week 3 May include mornings or evenings
* Week 4 May include nights (waking or sleepovers)

Remuneration Benefits

* The current pay scale is subject to a 9.25% pay increase over the next 2 years (2025 upto October 2026), aligning with the recent WRC agreement aimed at enhancing pay adjustments within Section 39 organizations.

* Salary range for this position is €15.39 to €17.12 per hour (DOE)
