Theatre & Anaesthesia Lead Role
This leadership position plays a pivotal role in supporting the Cram Electronic Health Record (EHR) implementation across UPMC Ireland.
You will report to the EHR Clinical Stream Lead.
Key responsibilities include leading the implementation of key inpatient clinical applications, including the Theatre, Theatre Materials Management and the anaesthesia solution capabilities.
As the application champion at the group level, you will ensure alignment of system functionality with surgeons, anaesthetists, theatre, recovery and ancillary staff and their associated clinical workflow requirements.
Strategic and tactical leadership for the Theatre & Anaesthesia workstream is essential, ensuring alignment with clinical operations, financial systems, and overall programme goals.
A subject matter expert (SME) in Theatre & Anaesthesia functions, you will provide hands-on support during go-live and stabilisation phases, ensuring continuity of Theatre & Anaesthesia operations and rapid issue resolution.
Responsibilities:
* Deliver the new Theatre & Anaesthesia workstream within UPMC Ireland.
* Implement the programme within the project scope and governance.
* Establish your project team and allocate responsibilities.
* Collaborate with other clinical workstream leads where required.
* Ensure end-user experience, provider-facing modules, milestone tracking and reporting workstream status and issues, risks and benefits.
* Lead decision-making process towards the resolution of issues impacting your workstream.
Team Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement:
Serve as the primary liaison to clinicians and supporting staff, ensuring system design meets clinical documentation and workflow needs.
Leads Theatre & Anaesthesia engagement sessions, adoption planning, and go-live readiness efforts.
Recommend policy changes and process improvements related to Theatre & Anaesthesia use to drive efficiencies and improve outcomes.
Coordinate cross-functional clinician/provider implementation team across Theatre & Anaesthesia teams during transition.
Facilitate regular workgroup meetings, track milestones, document decisions, and escalate risks.
Act as a liaison between Theatre & Anaesthesia and the EHR implementation team.
Support development of training materials and assist with education for Theatre & Anaesthesia staff and other relevant end-users.
Workflow & System Design:
Collaborate with clinical and technical teams to support end-to-end clinical integrity across modules.
Act as the SME for clinician/provider-related functions in MEDITECH including Theatres, Theatre MM and the Anaesthesia capability.
Collaborate with MEDITECH analysts and operational leaders to design and validate Theatre & Anaesthesia workflows within MEDITECH Expanse.
Implementation Support, Data Validation & Testing:
Oversee Theatre & Anaesthesia system configuration, data migration validation and integration with existing or planned enterprise platforms where applicable.
Lead testing activities for Theatre & Anaesthesia modules, including integrated and user acceptance testing (UAT).
Documentation & Governance:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including current state/future state maps, risk/issue logs, decision registers, benefits registers, and change logs.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required:
* Registered Nurse (RN) with post graduate perioperative qualification.
* Minimum 3 years of perioperative experience in an acute care hospital or surgical center.
* Minimum 2 years of experience supporting or leading system implementations.
* Familiarity with Theatre & Anaesthesia workflows, clinical safety practices, and quality reporting standards.
* Strong project coordination, stakeholder engagement, and change management skills.
* Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work across clinical and operational teams.
Preferred:
* Prior hands-on experience with MEDITECH Expanse (especially the Surgical Services or OR module).
* Experience with digital documentation tools, surgical case management systems, or electronic preference cards.
* Familiarity with perioperative standards and safety frameworks.
* Knowledge of clinical decision support, change management methodologies, and regulatory requirements.
