GemPool are now looking to hire a
Network Engineer
to join a highly skilled team responsible for designing, deploying, and operating large-scale IP and optical networks.
This is a 6-month contract position with extension opportunities.
You'll work in an environment where scale, performance, and reliability are non-negotiable. This role combines deep hands-on engineering with design, planning, and troubleshooting across complex global networks.
Responsibilities:
* Design, rollout, and optimisation of large DWDM and optical transport networks
* IP network design and operation at scale, supporting backbone and data centre connectivity
* Optical planning, modelling, and capacity forecasting using industry-standard tools
* Ownership of network stability through advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis
* Working closely with global engineering teams to evolve network architectures and standards
* Contributing to automation, operational excellence, and continuous improvement initiatives
Experience Needed:
* 3+ years' industry experience in large-scale network engineering
* Extensive hands-on experience with DWDM networks and optical transport technologies
* Strong background in optical planning and modelling tools
* Deep understanding of IP networking fundamentals and protocol behaviour at scale
* In-depth, practical experience with BGP and OSPF in complex environments
* Proven experience with major Cisco router platforms, including:
* 37xx, 49xx, 65xx, 73xx, 76xx
* Supervisory engines and line cards for these platforms
* Excellent network analysis and troubleshooting skills, including packet-level diagnostics
Preferred Technical Expertise:
* DWDM, T1/OTN
* IPv4 & IPv6
* TCP (internals, congestion & flow control)
* Routing & high availability: BGP, OSPF, HSRP, GLBP
* Multicast: PIMv2, IGMP
* MPLS & signalling: LDP
* Security & access: TACACS, IPSEC, VPNs
* Monitoring & visibility: NetFlow
* Core internet services: DNS, HTTP
Why Join?
* Work on an internet-scale infrastructure that few engineers ever get exposure to
* Solve complex problems that directly impact global services
* Collaborate with some of the most talented network engineers in the industry
* Opportunity to influence future network architectures rather than just operate them
* Strong focus on engineering excellence
* Opportunity for continuous learning
