Overview
We are looking for a part-time cheesemonger for our counter in Dunnes Stores, Jetland Shopping Centre in Limerick. Prior experience is not required. This role offers opportunities for career progression for the right applicant. The position focuses on selling great cheese, sharing the producers' stories with customers, telling tastings, and building knowledge and experience in Irish and European food production and culture.

Key Responsibilities
* Sell cheese, food, and non-food items at the counter and provide exceptional customer service in a sometimes fast-paced environment.
* Care for cheese to ensure it is sold in its best condition and maintain thorough knowledge of all products and services, including the product stories and flavour pairings.
* Clean counters, storage areas and fridges; maintain high standards of personal service and a unique approach to offering local food, producers and culture.
* Learn about and educate customers on Sheridans Cheesemonger’s products and services, as well as Irish & European artisan cheese and food producers.
* Be familiar with all current products in range, including dairy, deli, and ambient categories.
* Assist customers with queries, use of the website, and stock deliveries; organize storage in designated areas.
* Describe tastes, flavours, textures, and pairings of cheese and other foods; maintain cheese in top condition and assist with waste reduction.
* Merchandise and display cheese and other items in the retail space; maintain food safety standards and HACCP documentation; understand allergens and navigate the Allergen Book.
* Prepare and display cheese as instructed by team leaders or managers; maintain cheese signs and displays; arrange seasonal hampers.
* Work with the team to ensure products are sold before expiration; stock rotation (FODL, etc.); report issues to team leaders or retail managers.
* Read, update, and maintain the Daily Handover Book; participate in quarterly stocktaking; perform daily counter maintenance and date rotation; assist with waste disposal.
* Other ad hoc duties as directed by Team Leader and/or Retail Managers.

Qualifications/Experience
* At least one year working in a similar retail setting or with a company like Sheridans is preferable but not essential.
* Excellent knowledge of Irish and European farmhouse cheese.
* HACCP trained or awareness of HACCP/Food Safety in retail.
* Interest in cheese and other local, artisan foods.
* Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
* Strong conversation and listening skills; outgoing, cheerful, and friendly personality.
* Passion for great customer service; excellent customer service and communication skills.
* Organised and calm under pressure.
* Available over 7 days, including evenings and weekends, as required by business needs.
