This team is responsible for how funds move into and out of Etsy’s ecosystem – from buyer payments, to seller disbursements, to the underlying ledgers and integrations that keep everything accurate and timely.You’ll lead a team of experienced engineers, work closely with Product, Analytics, and Partnerships, and help develop and operate systems that process billions of dollars annually with high reliability and strong risk controls.This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Engineering. We:Own services and integrations that enable every transaction on the Etsy Marketplace.Collaborate with Analytics to instrument, monitor, and optimize every aspect of the flow of funds, from the payment instrument the buyer uses all the way through to disbursing proceeds to our sellers.Stay ahead of the constantly evolving payments landscape, exploring and introducing new technologies when they present opportunities to better serve Etsy’s customers.Operate in a domain with high reliability expectations, critical external dependencies, and meaningful direct impact on Etsy’s revenue and seller trust.What does the day-to-day look like?As the Engineering Manager for Money Movement, you will:Own execution and delivery for your teamTranslate high-level business goals into actionable workstreams.Run the team’s planning ceremonies and keep the roadmap aligned with our organizational priorities.Ensure we ship iteratively, manage risk thoughtfully, and maintain high operational standards.Lead a team of experienced software engineersMentor and coach the engineers reporting to you.Run regular 1:1s, guide performance and career development, and foster an inclusive, high-trust team culture.Provide hands‑on technical leadershipPartner with senior engineers to shape technical direction, architecture, and sequencing for the squad’s roadmap.Participate in design and code reviews; ask the technical questions that steer the team to make pragmatic trade‑offs around reliability, scale, and delivery speed.Help the team navigate the adoption of agentic tooling in the product development process.Partner with AnalyticsWork closely with embedded Analytics partners to define the metrics that describe Money Movement health (e.g., authorization/settlement success, payout timeliness, error rates).Use data and experimentation to inform prioritization and validate whether changes are improving outcomes for buyers, sellers, and the business.Contribute to Payments‑wide leadershipWork with other Payments managers and Tech Leads on shared standards, platform investments, and incident response.Help define guidelines for how we build and maintain systems across the organization especially as we increasingly move towards agentic tooling.Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.Depth in backend systemsYou have experience designing, building, or operating distributed backend services (for example, in a high‑scale web or financial systems environment).You are comfortable diving into architecture discussions; understanding trade‑offs around consistency, idempotency, and fault tolerance, and helping your team understand our many integrations.Engineering management experienceYou have experience managing software engineering teams, including hiring, performance management, and career development.Your management style centers on service, enablement, clear expectations, and accountability.Payments processing experienceYou have hands‑on experience in online payments, payouts, or money‑movement systems (for example: card acquiring, alternative payment methods, disbursements, settlements, or reconciliations).You are familiar with working alongside payment processors, banks, or other financial partners, and you understand some of the operational and regulatory constraints involved in moving money.Additional InformationWhat's NextIf you're interested in joining the team at Etsy, please share your resume with us and feel free to include a cover letter if you'd like.
