Job Overview
As an Amazon Critical Infrastructure Field Engineer, you will provide full life‑cycle support to AWS Data Centers from design inception through site improvement and maintenance. You will act as the go‑to engineering resource for your region, offering technical guidance across diverse teams.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the recognized fire protection engineering expert for a broad range of fire and life safety issues across a wide geographic area.
Develop relationships with authorities having jurisdiction to better serve customers and communities.
Perform design and equipment submittal reviews for new Data Centers.
Conduct troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and create corrective action documentation for site/equipment failures.
Support operational issues with ad‑hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews, and event support.
Mentor and train customers and partner engineers in fire protection principles.
Own the conceptual design for existing data center upgrades and design solutions that increase capacity, availability, efficiency, and sustainability.
Interface with data center operations, design engineering, server hardware, and environmental health and safety teams to promote consistent standards.
Develop innovative solutions for AWS’s data centers.
Manage concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
Initiate and lead engineering audits, including on‑site visits, and produce reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations and remediation.
Act as resident engineer during new construction projects, supporting construction, commissioning, and turnover.
Qualifications
Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission-critical facilities such as data centers.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Familiarity with fire and building codes and standards (NFPA, NEC, FM Global, IFC, IBC).
Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering or equivalent.
Knowledge of fire alarm and fire suppression system installation, operation, and design.
Understanding of principles of fire protection engineering, fire hazards, and fire behavior.
Strong engineering judgment, detail- and data-oriented mindset.
Experience solving problems with engineered solutions and managing engineering projects or consultants.
Ability to build trust and relationships with stakeholders such as Operations, Controls, Construction, Design, Commissioning, and Program Managers.
Adaptability and willingness to work in the field.
Preferred: Professional Engineer license; experience with regional building codes; experience carrying design concepts through to deployment; experience reading and creating construction drawings; experience engaging regulatory agencies; experience with hazard analysis and mitigation for hazardous materials, energy storage, and related topics.
