About the Role A permanent Legal Cost Accountant position is available within my client's Legal Costs Unit. This unit is looking for someone to join an established team that manages over 1,500 legal cost claims annually. The role involves managing a high volume of solicitors' bills of costs and negotiating them to achieve savings. You will report directly to the Head of Legal Costs. Key Responsibilities Key responsibilities for this role include: Professionally analyzing and scrutinizing incoming bills of costs. Representing the State Claims Agency at court hearings to negotiate costs or present submissions. Managing a large caseload of various costs claims. Liaising with external solicitors, legal advisers, and State authorities to oppose bills of costs and handle related queries. Providing support to the Head of Legal Costs, in-house solicitors, and claims management teams. Contributing to a culture of continuous improvement to enhance the Legal Costs Unit's effectiveness and efficiency. Requirements Experience: At least five years of experience as part of a team in a fast-paced legal costs management environment, specifically negotiating and/or adjudicating incoming solicitors' bills of costs. Skills: You should have strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a large portfolio of claims. Excellent report writing, IT, and communication skills (both oral and written) are essential, as are sound judgment, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. Knowledge: Knowledge of the legal costs industry is preferred. Membership of a relevant recognized professional governing body is also desirable. Skills: Legal Cost Accountant
