Overview
Applications are invited for an appointment as Lecturer in General Nursing (Public Health Nursing), 1 FTE Permanent at University of Galway. The School of Nursing and Midwifery is a dynamic, innovative, research-active school with vibrant teaching and research programmes. The School invites applications for two Lecturer in General Nursing (Type A), permanent full-time posts. A Type A contract is a predominantly teaching contract. The post is to commence from 1 December 2025 (or as near as possible thereafter).
Responsibilities
* Teach and supervise students across School programmes, including the postgraduate diploma in public health nursing, the postgraduate gerontology programme and undergraduate general nursing programmes, in classroom, skills laboratories, clinical settings and online.
* Be a team member contributing to all aspects of teaching and associated administration across School programmes, in classroom, skills laboratories, clinical settings and online.
* Undertake curriculum and practice development, contribute to recruitment activities, contribute to the development of student placements, and contribute to research initiatives.
Qualifications
* Registered Public Health Nurse and Registered Nurse Tutor with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), with demonstrated clinical credibility in public health and general nursing, including clinical experience, and the ability to work constructively with students and others.
* Excellent academic record with appropriate professional and academic qualifications; experience of teaching in third-level institutions, programme development, and conducting research are desirable.
Salary
€63,624 - €101,498 p.a (applicable to new entrants effective from January, 2011). This appointment will be made on the Lecturer scale in line with current Government pay policy and in accordance with the terms and conditions of the University’s Remuneration policy.

Interviews and presentation
Interviews are likely to take place the week of 13 October 2025 and candidates will be asked to present a ten-minute presentation on “My contribution to public health and general nursing education and research in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Galway”. Garda vetting may apply. Appointments will be conditional on work authorisation validation.
