The Role.
GMC are currently looking for an experienced Stores and Yard Operative to join our team.
As a Stores and Yard Operative reporting to the Team Leader, your role is pivotal in maintaining the efficient functioning of our construction stores and yard. You will be responsible for various tasks related to inventory management, yard organization, and supporting the overall operations of the team.
Key Duties and Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Inventory Handling:
* Assist in receiving, inspecting, and storing construction materials.
* Update and maintain accurate records of inventory levels.
* Collaborate with the team leader to conduct regular stock checks.
* Ensure crews that come in throughout the day are dealt with in an efficient and timely manner to avoid any delays on site.
Yard Maintenance:
* Ensure the orderly arrangement of construction materials in the yard.
* Support the loading and unloading of materials as needed.
* Keep the yard clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
Assistance in Logistics:
* Assist in the coordination of material deliveries and shipments.
* Communicate effectively with logistics personnel and suppliers.
* Help in the proper documentation of incoming and outgoing materials.
Safety Compliance:
* Follow safety protocols and guidelines at all times.
* Wear and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE).
* Report any safety concerns or incidents promptly to the team leader.
Communication and Teamwork:
* Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth workflow.
* Communicate effectively with colleagues, suppliers, and vendors.
* Report any issues or discrepancies to the team leader promptly.
Quality Control:
* Assist in implementing quality control measures for materials.
* Report any damaged or non-compliant items to the team leader.
* Participate in regular inspections as required.
General Support:
* Support the team leader in day-to-day operations.
* Undertake additional tasks as assigned to meet team goals.
* Contribute to a positive and cooperative work environment.
* Ad hoc tasks as instructed by the Stores and Yard Team Leader.
The Candidate: Required Experience and Competencies:
* Previous experience in a stores, warehouse, or yard environment (preferred).
* Basic understanding of inventory management and logistics.
* Ability to follow safety guidelines and protocols.
* Good communication and teamwork skills.
* Physical fitness for tasks involving lifting and manual labour.
