Cpl is partnering with the Irish Prison Service to recruit a Staff Grade Pharmacist. This permanent, whole-time post will contribute to prison pharmacy services. The successful candidate will work with the Prison Pharmacist to provide expert advice on specialist medicines and participate in the development of guidelines.
Principal Duties:
* To conduct regular audits of prescribing practices within the IPS to ensure compliance with policy and guidance.
* To develop and implement guidelines for the use of medicines.
* To provide advice on the use of specialist medicines, including those used to treat Hep C and ARVs.
* To support the IPS Covid vaccination programme by managing logistics, medication, safety, and pharmacovigilance.
Other Responsibilities:
* To provide advice to medical and nursing staff on drug usage and participation in drug safety schemes.
* To ensure the safe use of medicines by evaluating risks and participating in NIMS.
* To participate in multidisciplinary committees, such as the IPS Drugs & Therapeutics committee.
* To conduct research and promote medicines safety and minimise error.
* To assist with tender competitions and management of prison pharmacy service contracts.
* To provide training and information on medication to prison healthcare staff.
* To maintain professional competency through Continued Professional Development.
The location for this position is flexible, with preferred locations being Dublin, Portlaoise or Longford. The Chief Pharmacist will attend IPS HQ Longford a minimum of one day per week if the preferred location is not Longford.
Requirements:
* To be registered as a Pharmacist with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland or be entitled to be so registered.
* To have at least two years' satisfactory post-registration experience.
* To possess the requisite knowledge and ability for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
