Creative Content & Communications Volunteer

Tasks:
Storytelling & Copywriting:
Support the creation of engaging, survivor-reflective copy and content that amplifies survivor voices and lived experiences (e.g. across social media, newsletters, blogs, survivor quotes, our website, zines, digital assets, and campaign messaging).
Help with the development of timely copy and content in response to emerging topics (e.g. published research, developments in the DSGBV sector, or survivor-led initiatives).
Contribute to content planning and copy for key platforms (e.g. the Latest News & Updates section on our website).
Assist with copywriting and content creation using tools such as Canva, CapCut, Adobe, or similar platforms.
Digital Content & Engagement:
Help conceptualise and co-create engaging digital content — such as short videos, interviews, and visual posts — that reflect survivor voices and boost engagement, reach, and impact.
Assist with drafting captions, selecting imagery, and scheduling survivor-centred content across our digital platforms.
Contribute to the development of survivor-created resources such as zines, toolkits, and visual storytelling pieces.
Collaboration & Survivor Engagement:
Work collaboratively with survivors and support them in amplifying their voices through content and storytelling.
Champion our survivor-led approach by respecting each survivor’s sense of agency, empowerment, and autonomy.
Collaborate with other volunteers and the team to identify opportunities for sharing survivor stories, amplifying marginalised voices, and promoting Beyond Surviving’s work.
Communications Strategy Support:
Support the development of Beyond Surviving’s evolving communications strategy to increase reach, engagement, and impact.
Contribute ideas for enhancing our presence across key platforms (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn), with the goal of growing our audience and deepening connection, reach and impact.
Assist in identifying emerging trends and opportunities that align with our mission and elevate our content and messaging.
Take inspiration from other NGOs and sector partners, and seek opportunities to connect and collaborate.
Ethical & Consent-Based Communications:
Apply Beyond Surviving’s ethical storytelling principles to all content, ensuring informed consent, survivor safety, and dignity are upheld to the highest standard.
Uphold trauma-informed and trauma-sensitive communication at all times.
Obtain explicit, clear, and affirmed consent (e.g. through consent forms) from all survivor participants prior to publishing content that includes personal data or identifying information.
Ensure approval by the CEO or Volunteer Coordinator of all content is obtained prior to publishing.
Ensure all content is inclusive, respectful, and aligned with Beyond Surviving’s survivor-led ethos.

What's Required
1. Passionate about supporting survivors and aligned with Beyond Surviving’s mission.
2. Lived experience of domestic or sexual violence is welcomed but not required.
3. Organised, proactive, and detail-oriented.
4. Able to commit to a minimum of 6-months volunteering with Beyond Surviving and at least 2 hours per week.
5. Experience in communications, copywriting or social media content creation.
6. Strong personable and communication skills, with a sensitivity to survivor experiences and ethical storytelling.
