Title: Senior Maintenance Technician Department: Maintenance Reports to: Maintenance Supervisors & Maintenance Manager Purpose of the Role: The Senior Maintenance Technician is a highly skilled professional responsible for ensuring the effective operation, reliability, and upkeep of plant machinery and equipment.
This role involves supporting maintenance technicians and apprentices, providing technical expertise, and leading by example to promote a safe, efficient, and well-coordinated working environment.
Key Responsibilities: Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and provide support to technicians.
Support managers and supervisors in monitoring and improving machine reliability.
Identify and implement continuous improvement and efficiency projects.
Collaborate with operations teams to enhance line performance.
Participate in the commissioning of new equipment and systems.
Contribute to the training and development of technicians and machine operators.
Evaluate and refine preventive maintenance programs.
Provide on-call support and site attendance when required.
Offer flexible cover for other shifts during periods of holiday or absence.
Take a proactive role in planning and executing repairs in preparation for audits and inspections.
Contribute to spare parts management and maintenance planning initiatives.
Participate in health and safety compliance efforts and risk assessments.
Core Duties: Provide technical support during production shifts and emergency situations.
Assist maintenance leadership with project execution, improvement plans, and audit readiness.
Develop and adjust preventive maintenance schedules to enhance line performance.
Collaborate with the team to plan and execute shutdowns and equipment overhauls.
Mentor and train staff on new and existing machinery and best practices.
Work closely with stores to ensure appropriate stock levels and minimize obsolete inventory.
Support the implementation of safety upgrades and machine compliance projects.
Drive and participate in lean and process improvement initiatives.
Develop, document, and train others on best practice maintenance procedures.
Maintain accurate maintenance records using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as needed.
Skills & Experience Required: At least two years' experience in a maintenance technician role.
Proven track record in fault diagnosis and resolving downtime issues.
Familiarity with mechanical systems such as form-fill-seal machines, weighers, and temperature-controlled equipment.
Experience mentoring less-experienced staff and sharing technical knowledge.
Previous involvement in supervising or coordinating third-party contractors.
