The Laboratory Department in TippUH is a multi-disciplinary laboratory, comprising of Blood Transfusion, Haematology, Biochemistry and POCT departments, as well as providing an external test referral service to other laboratories.
The Laboratory department is led by the Chief Medical Scientist, with a team of scientific & support staff.
It provides a clinical diagnostic service in Blood Transfusion, Haematology, Biochemistry and POCT for TippUH inpatients, as well as a Haematology and Biochemistry service for local GPs and nursing homes.
The Blood Transfusion Laboratory has been accredited by the Irish National Accreditation Board (INAB) since April **** and thus complies fully with the requirements set out in Articles 14 and 15 of EU Directive *******/EC and Statutory Instruments No. 360 of ****, and No. 547 of ****.
A routine service is provided Monday to Friday *****am to *****pm.
An emergency on call service is provided at all other times.
The Laboratory Department is committed to providing a timely and efficient diagnostic service to all patients, clinicians and other users.
It aims at all times to ensure that this service is of a standard required to achieve maximum patient benefit.
The laboratory is committed to good professional practice and to achieve a quality of service that is compliant with the international standard ISO *****.
In cooperation with the Chief Medical Scientist, Quality Officer, Haemovigilance Officer, Senior Medical Scientist and Clinical staff the post holder will participate in the delivery of a quality laboratory service that supports the clinical needs of Tipperary University Hospital patients and is consistent with Laboratory Quality Statement mission, vision, values and strategic plan of the organisation and in accordance with ISO ***** Standards.
