Overview

We’re looking for an Automation Engineer (FLS) to join our team on a full-time, on-site basis in Westmeath. Working on a 24/7 shift cycle, you’ll support the configuration, operation, and maintenance of process control and data historian systems for manufacturing, utilities, and facility operations. This is a hands-on role within a GMP-regulated environment, ensuring systems run smoothly and remain fully compliant.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide technical support and configuration for all site automation systems across manufacturing, utility, and facility areas.
* Manage and coordinate third-party vendors or system integrators for project work and ongoing support.
* Prepare, review, and approve automation-related design and compliance documentation.
* Develop and maintain SOPs to ensure automation systems remain compliant and well-managed.
* Respond quickly to equipment failures, troubleshooting issues, and coordinating repairs.
* Perform scheduled system monitoring, preventive maintenance, and corrective actions.
* Support validation activities for new and existing systems.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimise equipment performance.

Education & Experience

* Minimum 3 years’ automation engineering experience in a GMP-regulated environment.
* Experience supporting biopharma processes, preferably downstream or Fill-Finish operations.
* Skilled in working with and managing system integrators.
* Strong background in maintaining control networks (Profibus, Ethernet) and automation platforms (DeltaV, Siemens PLCs, Siemens Desigo, SCADA/HMI).
* Knowledge of OSI PI, SQL Server, and virtualisation platforms is an advantage.
* Experience with change control processes and deviation investigations.
* Solid understanding of cGMP and GAMP standards for compliant automation systems.
* B.S. degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field preferred.

* This is a shift-based role, covering nights and weekends on a 24/7 rotation.
* On-site position based in Athlone, with close collaboration across manufacturing and engineering teams.
