Purpose of Position
The Clinical Nurse Manager 2 (CNM2) is a senior management role responsible for overseeing a designated area of the nursing home and ensuring the highest standards of person‑centred care in line with HIQA standards and relevant legislation.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Service Management and Development
The CNM2 undertakes all responsibilities outlined in the Health Act 2007, related regulations, Health and Safety, Fire, Employment, Environmental, GDPR, HIQA Standards, and An Bord Altranais. They participate in organisation, management and operations under the direction of the Assistant/Director of Nursing, develop staff training and supervision, liaise with external organisations, manage risk and resident safety, ensure safe use of equipment, implement stock control, keep abreast of practice trends, and lead change and improvement initiatives.
Team Leadership & Human Resource Management
The CNM2 leads, mentors, and develops the multidisciplinary team, ensures confidentiality, provides supervision and performance appraisals, oversees communication and team meetings, manages rosters, handles on‑call duties, monitors attendance, and supports induction of new staff.
Management of Care
The CNM2 ensures person‑centred, quality care consistent with Best Evidence Based Practice, develops and reviews care plans, manages referrals, and promotes a culture of vigilance for resident safety and rights. They enforce Health & Safety and Hygiene standards and support families.
Administration & General Management
The CNM2 maintains timely, accurate communication with the Director of Nursing, records data and statistics, upholds confidentiality, and operates independently without clinical supervision.
Person Specification
Knowledge and Experience
Registered General Nurse with full ABA registration.
Evidence of continuous professional development.
Minimum three years in an aged‑care management role over the last six years.
Post‑registration management qualification in health or related field.
Excellent organisational and communication skills with fluent English.
At least two years management experience, ideally in a relevant setting.
Understanding of dementia best practice and the needs of residents and families.
Desirable post‑registration qualification in nursing older people.
Experience with quality and audit.
Knowledge of legislation for older people and dementia, including HIQA standards and regulations.
Understanding of Health & Safety, Employment legislation, and other relevant laws.
Service development and planning experience is desirable.
Ability to build relationships with external agencies.
