As an Amazon Project Design Mechanical Engineer, you will lead design projects in operational data centers that remediate issues, upgrade existing infrastructure, or add new services. You will be the "go to" engineering resource for these projects and will provide lifecycle support from design through implementation. You will use your mechanical expertise to own the design for data center upgrades, perform design and equipment submittal review, and interface with multiple teams to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
As a Fleet Remediation Project Design Mechanical Engineer, you will lead projects to fit out our data centers to meet evolving customer needs as we continue expanding our fleet to hyper-scale. You will have the opportunity to work on projects locally and globally, with up to 25% travel.
Key responsibilities
* Perform design and equipment submittal review for Data Centers in your region.
* Interface with internal and external data center design engineering teams, server hardware teams, environmental health and safety teams, field engineering, and controls engineering to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
* Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
* Act as a technical subject matter expert for your given discipline during new remediation projects.
* Support construction, commissioning, operations, and turnover.
* Possess strong engineering judgement and provide design recommendations despite uncertainty.
* Be detail- and data-oriented with familiarity with design/construction processes.
* Have experience managing engineering projects and engineering consultants.
* Build trust and relationships with stakeholders (e.g., Operations, Commissioning, Construction, and Design).
* Manage design and as-built drawings and documents; prepare and present progress reports to stakeholders.
* Be inclined to get into the field to see things up close.
Minimum qualifications
* Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
* 2+ cumulative years of design experience with industrial or commercial engineering in Mission Critical facilities (Experienced Engineer).
Preferred qualifications
* Organized with the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and manage budgets.
* Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
* Ability to carry design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment.
* Excellent communication and writing skills; attention to detail; high quality standards.
