Overview Of Role
We are currently recruiting for a Pharmacist to provide effective, efficient, and safe pharmaceutical care to all patients under the care of UPMC Whitfield Hospital. This is a full-time, permanent position.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
* Act at all times to ensure that the care and safety of patients is assigned the highest priority.
* Understand, model, and promote UPMC core values: Quality and Safety, Dignity and Respect, Caring and Listening, Responsibility and Integrity, Excellence and Innovation.
* Participate in the delivery and development of a clinical pharmacy service, carrying out prescription review, patient education, and documentation of clinical interventions.
* Assist in managing the efficient running of the Dispensary, including procurement, storage, supply, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals.
* Ensure best pharmaceutical practice, adhering to legal, ethical, and professional standards.
* Maintain accurate records related to procurement, storage, compounding, quality control, dispensing, and destruction of medications, in line with legislation.
* Achieve and maintain competence in the Oncology/Haematology clinical information system (ARIA).
* Support the Chief Pharmacist in managing the hospital formulary, providing expert advice and education.
* Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for pharmacy services, ensuring compliance with laws and standards.
* Provide medicines information and advice on drug availability, use, and safety.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize medication management workflows.
* Identify and address deficiencies in medication systems and report incidents or near misses to support risk management.
* Audit compliance with clinical practice standards for medications.
* Assist in managing the pharmacy budget through reporting and analysis.
* Participate in hospital committees and multidisciplinary meetings.
* Lead and role model within the pharmacy team, building effective partnerships.
* Coordinate service delivery and supervise pharmacy staff as appropriate.
* Support staff development, training, and performance management.
* Engage in professional development and contribute to research activities.
* Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chief Pharmacist, including deputizing when necessary.
Qualifications & Experience
* Registered with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland or eligible for registration.
* Minimum 5 years of experience.
* High standard of management ability and professional knowledge.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Ability To Demonstrate
* Excellent planning, organizational, and resource management skills.
* Strong leadership, interpersonal, and people management skills.
* Experience in change management and quality improvement.
