Operating in one of the most rapidly expanding sectors, we are seeking an Asset Manager EU Director with deep experience in energy trading and BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) revenue optimization, preferably in the European power markets.
This role focuses on maximizing returns from utility-scale battery storage assets through trading strategy, market analytics, and dispatch optimization.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on exposure to electricity markets such as Ireland (EirGrid/SONI), Italy (Terna) and UK (National Grid ESO).
Prior experience working with distribution network operators (DNOs) or transmission system operators (TSOs) in these countries in terms of wholesale electricity trading will be considered a significant asset.
Responsibilities include: Develop and implement advanced trading strategies for BESS arbitrage in European wholesale power markets (including day-ahead, intra-day, and balancing/reserve markets).
Lead efforts to optimize dispatch and bidding across revenue streams such as frequency response, capacity, and ancillary services.
Collaborate with external platform providers to ensure best-in-class asset monetization and operational efficiency.
Manage external platform providers to enable efficient asset management operations and to internalize expertise and know-how.
Develop and operate Asset Management Platform for Hanwha Energy Europe targeting the European market such as Ireland, Italy and UK(for UK, if required).
Monitor and report on the commercial performance of battery assets, including P&L ownership and KPI tracking.
Analyze historical and real-time data to improve forecast accuracy and market participation outcomes.
Assess market rules, policy changes, and grid services opportunities in key regions such as Ireland, Italy and UK (for UK, if required).
Provide internally with wholesale electricity price forecast as per individual renewable technology (such as PV, Wind) guidance for project acquisition, due diligence, and financial modeling.
Coordinate and negotiate with DNOs, TSOs, and regulatory bodies to ensure operational and market compliance.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Energy Systems, Economics, or related disciplines.
MBA, CFA, or other advanced certifications are preferred and desirable.
8+ years in energy asset management, trading, or power markets.
Proven experience in BESS operations, optimization, or trading in European energy markets.
Prior employment or collaboration with National Grid ESO (UK), EirGrid/SONI (Ireland), or Terna (Italy), or other European DNO/TSO entities is highly preferred.
Deep understanding of EU power market dynamics, regulatory frameworks, and grid services.
Experience with optimization tools, trading platforms, and forecasting models.
Strong financial acumen with a track record of delivering commercial performance.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Technical background in control systems, power electronics, or energy software platforms.
Familiarity with BESS trading optimization tools such as AutoBidder, GridBeyond, or bespoke algorithms.
Programming proficiency (Python, R, MATLAB) for custom analytics and strategy development.
Proficiency in English and multilingual capability (e.g., Italian or German) is a plus.
