The role will support the development of new applications for additive manufacturing within Irish industries, and the development and optimisation of metal additive manufacturing processes. This role is specifically targeting IMR’s continued growth in the areas of Directed Energy Deposition (DED), Metal Laser Based Powder Bed Fusion (M/LPBF), and Metal Binder Jetting (MBJ). The successful candidate will have hands on experience in the use and characterisation of AM technologies, development of process parameters for AM technologies and the development of new designs and applications using AM technologies, obtained either through advanced degrees or industrial experience.

Work directly with external customers to identify and evaluate new products based on their suitability for a variety of additive manufacturing (AM) processes.
Prepare build files, carry out full build processes and test components based on customer requirements and process performance studies.
Support the development of new additive manufacturing process parameters for new materials, increased cycle times or new geometry types.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance AM process capabilities, reduce cycle times, and increase throughput.
Collaborate with R&D teams to evaluate new materials, technologies, and equipment for additive manufacturing applications.
Create and maintain process documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and work instructions for AM process
Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise to resolve issues related to AM process performance, equipment operation, and part quality.
Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to address deviations and non-conformances in AM production.

Hands on experience in, and strong knowledge of additive manufacturing principles, techniques, and materials, with expertise in one or more AM processes (e.g., PBF, DED, binder jetting).
Strong proficiency in AM build preparation software (Materialise Magics or Siemens NX desirable).
Experience in the assessment and redesign of components to better suit additive manufacturing processes.
Proficiency in CAD software (NX desirable) and experience with design for additive manufacturing (DfAM) principles.
Familiarity with statistical analysis tools (e.g., Minitab, JMP) and data analysis techniques for process optimization.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or collaboratively in a research environment.
Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical information effectively to cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Experience with quality management systems (ISO 9001, AS9100) and familiarity with regulatory requirements for additive manufacturing (e.g., ASTM standards, NIST guidelines) is an advantage.
