We're looking for a
Taxonomist
to join our growing data and knowledge management team - someone who can bring order to complexity through effective taxonomy design, classification, and metadata strategy.
In this role, you'll help shape how information is organised, connected, and understood across the business. You'll work closely with data scientists, knowledge engineers, and product teams to build taxonomies and knowledge graphs that enable smarter search, discovery, and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, develop, and maintain taxonomies, ontologies, and metadata frameworks to support enterprise data and knowledge systems.
* Classify and structure large volumes of data and content, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and scalability.
* Collaborate with product, data, and engineering teams to integrate taxonomy and metadata into systems and workflows.
* Contribute to the design and implementation of
knowledge graphs
and semantic data models that connect key entities and concepts.
* Analyse existing data structures and propose improvements to enhance search, retrieval, and analytics capabilities.
* Ensure taxonomies align with business goals, user needs, and data governance standards.
* Monitor taxonomy performance and user feedback to drive continuous improvement.
Skills & Experience
* Proven experience in
taxonomy design, data classification
, or
information architecture
.
* Strong understanding of
metadata management, ontologies, and controlled vocabularies
.
* Hands-on experience working with
knowledge graphs, RDF, SPARQL, or graph databases
(e.g. Neo4j).
* Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail; comfortable working with large datasets.
* Familiarity with
data governance
,
semantic web technologies
, or
machine learning-driven classification
is a plus.
* Strong communication and collaboration skills; able to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
* Degree in Information Science, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
