MRHP-10-25-256 Senior Medical Scientist - Haemovigilance Officer – Permanent, full-time vacancy in the Blood Transfusion Haemovigilance Service at Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise. A panel may be formed from this campaign for current and future permanent or specified-purpose vacancies.

Responsibilities
To be part of a team that provides a high quality, holistic and integrated transfusion service for all patients. To ensure adherence to the requirements of the EU Blood Directive 2002/98/EC and the ISO Standard 15189 throughout the entire transfusion process, assess current treatments, improve the management and clinical outcomes of care, monitor cost effectiveness in care provision, and support practice development and education to facilitate the development of competencies within the services. To work in collaboration with the Laboratory Directorate, Director of Nursing, Quality Manager and other members of the Multi-Disciplinary team. Interdepartmental co-operation and teamwork is an essential component of providing an integrated Haemovigilance service at MRHP.
Eligibility Criteria, Qualifications and Experience
Candidates must meet the criteria detailed under either A or B below:
* Clinical Nurse Manager 2 Eligibility Criteria
* Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc.
* Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:
* Are registered in the General Division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) or entitled to be registered.
AND
(ii) Have at least 5 years post registration experience (or an aggregate of 5 years full-time post registration experience) of which 2 years must be in the speciality area of an acute clinical setting in which blood / blood products are used.
AND
(iii) Have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
AND
(iv) Candidates must demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development.
AND
(v) Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability including a high standard of suitability and clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
OR
Senior Medical Scientist Eligibility Criteria
* Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc.
* Be registered, or be eligible for registration, on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU.
* Applicants who satisfy the conditions set out in Section 91 of the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005 must submit proof of application for registration with CORU.
* Possess one of the following NFQ Level 9 postgraduate qualifications or equivalent at minimum Level 9 validated by ACSLM: MSc in Clinical Laboratory Science (DIT/TU Dublin), MSc in Clinical Chemistry (TCD), MSc in Biomedical Science (UU/CIT/UCC/MTU), or other listed MSc qualifications.
* Possess Fellowship of the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine (before July 2018) or Fellowship examination of the Institute of Biomedical Science (awarded prior to 1999).
* Have four years full-time clinical experience as a medical scientist in a clinical diagnostic laboratory since qualifying as a medical scientist.
* Demonstrate evidence of Continuous Professional Development and the requisite knowledge and ability for the role.
* Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the CORU Medical Scientists Register before a contract of employment can be issued (applicable to Section 38 applicants).
* Annual Registration: Upon appointment, maintain annual registration on the CORU Medical Scientists Register. Confirm annual registration with CORU via the Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).
Note: Section 91 candidates are those who qualified before 31 March 2019 and have been engaged in the practice of the profession in Ireland for at least 2 years full-time between 31 March 2014 and 31 March 2019.
Post Specific Requirements: Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience as relevant to the role, including experience in the transfusion process and in all aspects of Haemovigilance and transfusion therapy.
