The ISPCA Dog Warden Service is seeking an enthusiastic Kennel Assistant to expand our team in County Kildare.
The Applicant:
We’re seeking trustworthy, reliable and friendly person with the ability and initiative to “get stuck in” with the rest of our team.
Due to the nature of our work, we require that the applicant has:
• Excellent animal handling experience particularly with canines.
• A basic level of education to include written and spoken English.
• A keen interest in animal welfare.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• The ability to work efficiently under pressure, as part of a team and on their own initiative.
• Resilience and the ability to cope with potentially distressing and emotional situations.
The following skills would be an advantage:
• Awareness of the Control of Dogs Act 1986, as amended and the Dog Breeding Establishment’s Act 2010.
• Experience caring for and rehabilitating sick, injured and traumatised animals.
• Experience with disease control.
Who We Are and What We Do:
Located in Co. Kildare, the Kildare Dog Pound houses up to 15 dogs. You will be joining our current team to service the county.
Our aim is to educate the public and enforce the Control of Dogs Act 1986, as amended and the Dog Breeding Establishment’s Act 2010.
Due to the nature of our work, we also have a 24 hour a day Employee Assistance Programme available to all employees. This service is confidential and is completely free for our employees.
Some of the main duties and responsibilities of this role would include:
• Providing care by routine checking, inspecting, exercising, feeding, medicating, grooming, weighing, worming and rehabilitating the resident animals.
• Assisting the vet when necessary.
• Preparing animals for re-homing.
• General maintenance of the pound, including sweeping, power washing, cleaning and disinfecting kennels, as well as maintaining all animal areas.
• Use of all machinery and equipment in a safe and efficient way, adhering to legislation, policies and
procedures. Including reporting any faulty equipment.
• Supporting a safe working environment by following identified risk assessments, following Health and Safety regulations, and by maintaining security.
• Maintaining up to date records, registers and statistics.
• Providing information on a daily basis to the Dog Warden and other staff on matters such as animal
health, care and feeding regimes, and liaising with other staff to facilitate smooth running of the
pound.
• Ensuring a high level of customer care by attending to their needs, telephone calls and emails in a timely and efficient manner.
• Administration duties such as assisting with ordering, stock rotation and stock taking, issuing
neutering vouchers as required, scanning and updating microchips.
• Carrying out any other reasonable duty as may be required.
