Registrar in Medicine – Immediate start
Location: HSE West North West, Galway, County Galway, Ireland. The role is based at Portiuncula University Hospital in Ballinasloe.
Hospital Background
Portiuncula University Hospital comprises 194 beds, including a 50‑bed ward block, and provides 24/7 acute surgery, acute medicine, critical care, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, and a 24/7 Emergency Department. The hospital serves the catchment areas of East Galway, Westmeath, North Tipperary, Roscommon, and Offaly, with a referral pathway to the Midlands.
Education & Training
Portiuncula University Hospital is an accredited training site for undergraduate medical students (University of Galway), graduate entry medical students (University of Limerick), and for intern trainees under the West North West Intern Training program. Basic Specialist Training in General Medicine is available to Senior House Officers on the RCPI training programme, and the hospital also hosts the ICGP West GP training scheme. Structured weekly teaching covers general internal medicine topics, MRCP preparation, advanced clinical skills, and simulation‑based education of deteriorating patient care. International trainees are supported through the CPSP programme and have Basic and Higher Specialist training opportunities in Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics, and Gynaecology.
Minimum Requirements
* 2 years post‑internship experience
* Active IMC registration
* Evidence of minimum English language criteria as set in HSE HR Circular 063/2020
Desirable (but not essential)
* Experience working in the Irish Healthcare system
* Completed, or working towards, professional membership exams
