Salary: Competitive. Training grant to support for conference / training attendance

Fellowship Overview:

This is an Endocrinology (Thyroid) Clinical Fellowship which will allow the successful candidate to gain -

* Subspecialist expertise in Thyroid disease - common and rare
* Consultant level experience in leading Thyroid MDTs
* Multidisciplinary care of Thyroid disease
* Publication(s) in peer reviewed journal(s)
* Presentation at national and international levels
* Thyroid specific course completion - see below
* Development of Endocrine clinical pathways and patient information - see below
* Additional clinical exposure to pituitary endocrinology (including post-operative care), parathyroid disease, general endocrinology.

The Fellowship research will build on the work of and be supervised by Dr Carla Moran, Endocrinology Consultant Beacon Hospital.

Clinical component (approximately 20 hours pw)

The Fellow will be given a level responsibility in keeping with their experience.

Clinical - common Thyroid cases in clinic - weekly 8 hr clinic

Preparation for clinic, required reading for cases, admin after clinic

Lead fortnightly Thyroid MDT, prep cases, admin afterwards

Endocrine inpatient reviews

Endocrine oncology inpatient liaison

Endocrine pituitary (neurosurgery) inpatient care

Supervision of Endocrine Dynamic testing: infusion suite and inpatients

Rare Thyroid Disease MDT (Dublin/Cambridge) - weekly (online)

Preparation for Rare Thyroid Disease MDT

Rare Thyroid disease clinic - every 3m

Prep for Rare Thyroid Disease clinic and admin after clinic

Research component (approximately 14 hours pw)

Resistance to Thyroid Hormone

Drug induced Thyroid disease

Assay abnormalities

Education component (approximately 3 hours pw)

Promote education on Endocrinology to the NCHD cohort, as well as multi-disciplinary team members.

In conjunction with UCD Beacon Academy provide education & teaching to undergraduate medical students and interns - through classroom-based tutorials, ward rounds, teaching during procedures, and participation in masterclasses and Grand Rounds.

EUGOGO Thyroid Eye Disease course

Thyroid Ultrasound Course (UK)

RAI for benign thyroid disease (UK)

Attend St Luke's Hospital - RAI Administration for benign/malignant disease (+/- Audit)

Observe Thyroid surgery & FNA

Observe TED Clinic

Develop postgraduate Thyroid teaching

Potential to attend Paediatric Clinics if possible

Attendance at national and international Endocrine and Thyroid meetings

Management and Governance (approximately 2 hours pw)

Guidelines for endocrinology - Beacon

Development of information on Thyroid disease for patients

Develop protocols for TED - Beacon

Ongoing audits/service improvement plans/development of Endocrine clinical pathways

Fellowship Program Goals and Learning Objectives: As described above in Fellowship Overview

Resources Available to the Fellow: The Fellow will have access to the UCD Beacon Hospital Academy, UCD Library Services and Beacon Hospital Research Institute.

Application Requirements:

The minimum training requirements required to apply for this Fellowship include:

* Primary Medical Degree
* International Candidates must have achieved a minimal score of 7 on the International English Language Testing System
* All candidates must have current IMC registration
