Principal Engineer – Roads (Limerick)WSP is seeking a Principal Engineer with extensive post‑professional qualification experience in the design and project management of road schemes and active‑travel schemes for our Limerick (N/M20 Project office). This role will lead a team delivering concept, preliminary and detailed designs for major national road schemes such as the N/M20 Cork‑to‑Limerick Project, Public Transport schemes (e.g., Cork BusConnects, Metrolink), and active‑travel schemes for the National Transport Authority and local authorities.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage projects to ensure coordination and compatibility of multidisciplinary inputs on projects of varying scale, complexity and value.Liaise with clients, develop trusted relationships, proactively manage expectations and provide comprehensive advice.Serve as project technical lead and reviewer, preparing fee proposals and managing budgets for individual projects.Develop and deliver discrete and overall project solutions, supporting the preparation of tender packages.Lead and manage other staff members in the delivery of design drawings, standard construction details, specifications and bill of quantities.Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental legislation and in‑house quality‑assurance standards/processes.Required QualificationsProject management and technical delivery lead experience of road or public‑transport/active‑travel schemes, with familiarity of Transport Infrastructure Ireland/National Transport Authority/Local Authority procedures.Experience with contract document preparation or contract administration/site supervision using Public Works Contracts.Chartered member of a relevant engineering technical institution.Experience or knowledge of alignment and drainage design software packages such as Civil3D, Open Roads, WinDes, or MX (preferred).Strong communication, client‑management and interpersonal skills.Excellent IT skills, including MS Project.Understanding and application of current design standards (DMURS, Traffic Signs Manual, Cycle Design Manual, TII publications, NTA Project Management Guidelines).Strong stakeholder‑management experience.If you do not meet all criteria, we welcome applications to explore how your experience might align with this role and other opportunities within the team.Equal Opportunity StatementHere at WSP we positively encourage applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, religion or belief, marital status, pregnancy or maternity/paternity.
