The Packaging Operations Manager is a critical role responsible for ensuring the efficient, compliant, and timely packaging of pharmaceutical products. The position involves managing daily operations, maintaining audit readiness, driving continuous improvement, and leading a high-performing team to meet business goals across quality, safety, cost, and delivery metrics.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee daily packaging operations including planning, execution, and performance while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
* Maintain audit readiness for regulatory, internal, and customer inspections, and approve packaging component artwork for new product introductions.
* Manage deviation, CAPA, and change control processes within the packaging function to ensure continuous compliance and improvement.
* Lead and develop packaging teams (supervisors, technicians, operators), conduct performance reviews, and manage training needs.
* Foster a high-performance culture by promoting accountability, engagement, and workforce flexibility through cross-training and career development.
* Implement Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or TPM methodologies to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
* Monitor and improve key performance indicators (KPIs) such as yield, OEE, cycle time, RFT, and schedule adherence.
* Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams on equipment troubleshooting, upgrades, and ensuring preventative maintenance and qualification compliance.
* Support technical transfers and the implementation of new technologies to enhance packaging operations and capabilities.
* Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring adherence to EHS regulations and leading safety incident investigations with corrective follow-ups.
* Engage cross-functionally with QA, QC, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Planning to align operations and contribute to initiatives like product launches and capacity planning.
Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred).
* 5+ years' experience in a GMP environment, including 3+ years in a leadership role.
* Demonstrated experience managing audits, compliance, and continuous improvement projects.
* Green Belt (or higher) in Lean Six Sigma preferred.
* In-depth understanding of packaging processes and equipment.
* Strong leadership, communication, and team development capabilities.
* Analytical thinking, decision-making, and root cause analysis.
* Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
* Proficiency in MS Office, MES, ERP (SAP), and Trackwise or similar systems.
