OffalyPlanning & Building Unit (PBU)The Planning and Building Unit is responsible for identifying the current and future infrastructure requirements for all levels of the education and training sector and for overseeing the delivery of a capital programme to deliver accommodation to the required standard, within the allocated resources, and in line with the strategic direction of the Department. The Unit also has responsibility for strategic planning to ensure that the Department can continue to meet future requirements for education accommodation in line with growing demand and changing needs.The Unit currently comprises over 200 administrative and professional and technical staff delivering a range of functions across forward planning; site acquisition and property management; school capital appraisal; overseeing and managing delivery of major construction projects, devolved projects, public private partnership (PPP) projects, further education and higher education capital investment and other programmes of capital activity; professional and technical guidance underpinned by research; and financial management.The current capital programme amount is in excess of €7.5 billion for 2026 – 2030 and is one of the largest capital development programmes in the State under Project Ireland 2040.Working EnvironmentThe working environment will alternate between office, remote working, site and building inspections. The applicant will be required to travel to attend client meetings, design team meetings, consultancy meetings, site meetings and site inspections. This will require that the applicant possess a Category B drivers' license, be able to drive, have access to a vehicle and be in a position to travel in line with the needs of the post.The applicant is expected to spend up to 3 days per week in the office, on site or carrying out building inspections, with the remaining days working remotely. The exact weekly split will vary depending on project requirements and arrangements with their manager. There may also be an option to work in a private architect's practice on secondment to gain additional practical experience, which would count as office-based time.Duties and Responsibilities of an Architectural GraduateThe Architectural Graduate will report to a line-manager Senior Architect. The Architectural Graduate will work in a flexible team under the direction of this Senior Architect. S/he will undertake a range of duties in design, construction and advisory projects and any other duties assigned from time to time as appropriate to the position.
