An Automation Engineer is required to support the design, development, and commissioning of automated systems used within regulated manufacturing environments. The role involves delivering reliable automation solutions for specialised equipment, while working closely with internal teams to ensure systems meet performance and compliance requirements.
Collaboration & Team Support
Work alongside multidisciplinary teams to implement and deploy automation software on equipment.
Contribute to the creation and maintenance of GAMP-compliant documentation and standardisation processes.
Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers where needed.
Automation Development
Design, program, and optimise PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
Integrate automation hardware such as sensors, communication interfaces, and identification technologies (e.g., RFID).
Participate in technical discussions with stakeholders to explain system functionality and gather feedback.
Testing & Commissioning
Support all phases of equipment testing, including factory and site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT).
Assist with troubleshooting, system validation, and commissioning activities both on-site and remotely.
Monitor system performance and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Liaise with quality and safety functions to ensure systems comply with relevant standards and regulations.
Skills & Experience
Experience in PLC and HMI programming, with exposure to embedded systems.
Ideally 3-5 years’ experience in a regulated industry such as pharmaceuticals or a similar environment.
Understanding of GAMP5 principles and risk-based validation approaches.
Strong communication skills with the ability to support team development.
Willingness to travel occasionally for testing and commissioning activities.
Experience working within engineering or automation teams, with involvement in delivered projects.
Role is primarily site-based.
Education
Degree in Automation, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
Relevant certifications in automation, quality, or project management are advantageous.
