Overview
Location – Must be based in the Republic of Ireland. We currently operate a hybrid homeworking model with flexible working hours. Some travel will be required to our offices in Naas or Dublin.
Working hours – Typically 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday but hours of work are flexible.
Salary – Competitive package provided.
Reporting to – Policy Manager.
The Candidate
The successful candidate will work as part of WEI's Policy & Research team to shape and advance policies that support the growth and development of the wind energy sector. You will be able to support WEI’s engagement with key stakeholders. You will enjoy staying up to date and interpreting policy developments at an Irish and wider European level, particularly in the areas of energy markets and supporting strategic development of onshore and offshore wind. You will be committed to helping Ireland respond to the climate emergency.

Wind Energy Ireland (WEI) is the representative body for the Irish wind industry, working to promote wind energy as an essential, economical and environmentally friendly part of the country’s low-carbon energy future.
We are Ireland’s largest renewable energy organisation with more than 200 members who have come together to plan, build, operate and support the development of the country’s chief renewable energy resource.

Role Description
The Policy Analyst is a permanent position. The successful candidate will be joining our Policy and Research Team, working closely with our team of Policy Managers, Analysts and Graduates.
Responsibilities
Undertake assignments and be offered exposure to various aspects of the policy and research activities of our organisation, and with this role, you will have a particular focus on supporting WEI’s work on EU energy policy, the electricity market and broader strategic development of onshore and offshore wind.
Have the opportunity to work at the heart of the Irish renewables industry, supporting the delivery of crucial policy measures and offering exposure to different aspects of our business, particularly in the areas of policy and research.
Engage with stakeholders in the relevant Government Departments and State bodies, including, but not limited to, the Department of Climate, Energy and Environment, the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, EirGrid, the Commission for Regulation of Utilities, and the Single Electricity Market Committee.
Collaborate with Wind Europe, the European Wind Energy Association, and support WEI engagement with policymakers and other relevant stakeholders at European level, to review and provide timely updates on EU energy policy trends, ensuring WEI members are well-informed of EU legislative and regulatory developments.
Have project-based responsibilities and be involved in the coordination and support of WEI committee and lead on working group activities with our members, such as the development of industry position papers and key consultation responses.
Support WEI's research activities through the production of evidence-based papers and management of consultations. Also support the delivery of funded research projects.
Gain a full understanding of the functioning of our organisation by contributing to our other key business functions across Membership, Events, Public Affairs, and support to our leadership.
To support your learning and development and deepen your industry knowledge, you will be paired with an experienced mentor in the team.
Minimum of 2 years' experience working in a policy, communication, research and/or public affairs role.
Demonstrated a minimum 2:1 capability in a third level qualification. Ideally related to engineering, business, finance, economics or a related discipline.
Enthusiastic and high calibre candidate who demonstrates motivation and interest for working in fast-paced renewable energy sector.
Possess strong written and verbal communication, as well as problem-solving skills.
Most importantly, you have strong interpersonal and team working skills, are open to working collaboratively with colleagues and members companies of WEI, as well as demonstrated ability to work off your own initiative.
Strong planning, organisational and IT skills.
Committed to playing your part in responding to the climate emergency and making Ireland energy independent.
Ability to introduce innovative ideas, solutions, or new ways of doing things and solve problems independently.
Developed project management skills with a proven record of coordinating activities and prioritising workloads, demonstrating the ability to complete all work to a high standard with a focus on timely delivery.
Good level of existing knowledge, interest and understanding of wind energy and the Irish energy system.
Knowledge of energy policy and electricity market design in Ireland and at a wider European level.
Understanding of the Irish political, media and policymaking landscape.
Clean and full driving licence.
