The Hawthorn by Galway Bay offers this fantastic opportunity to play a vital role at one of Ireland's most exciting golf projects. Opened in 1993 by Christy O'Connor Jr, Galway Bay boasts a stunning 18 hole championship golf course, framed beautifully by the Wild Atlantic Way. Spring 2026 will see us open a brand new 5* hotel onsite, The Hawthorn by Galway Bay, elevating the property to one of Ireland's finest golf resorts.
We are seeking an exceptional Golf Operations Manager to play a pivotal role in delivering world-class golf and resort experiences at The Hawthorn by Galway Bay, Ireland's newest 5* golf resort. This position is ideal for a driven golf professional with a passion for service excellence, golf retail, people leadership, and golf operations.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day running of golf retail operations, outside services, tournament delivery, and team development, ensuring every guest interaction reflects the highest levels of luxury, professionalism, and hospitality.
Key Responsibilities
Golf Operations & Service Excellence
* Lead daily golf operations to ensure seamless, premium guest experiences across all touchpoints.
* Champion service standards in-line with a 5* resort environment and the 59 club, exceeding guest expectations at all times.
* Act as a visible leader within the operation, engaging with members and guests proactively.
Retail Operations
* Oversee all aspects of the golf retail operation, including merchandising, stock control, pricing, and visual presentation.
* Maximise retail performance through sales, strategic buying and exceptional customer service.
* Lead and develop the retail team, ensuring that staff remain motivated and energised.
Outside Operations
* Manage outside services including bag drop, practice facilities, rental fleet, on course services and pace of play.
* Ensure immaculate presentation of all guest-facing golf areas.
* Implement efficient operational systems to maximise guest satisfaction.
Tournaments & Events
* Plan, coordinate, and deliver high-quality tournaments, corporate days, and golf events.
* Liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure flawless execution.
* Maintain accurate communication, logistics, scoring, and post-event reporting.
Team Leadership & Development
* Recruit, train, coach, and motivate a high-performing golf operations team.
* Foster a positive, inclusive, and professional team culture.
* Lead by example, demonstrating strong leadership, accountability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Essential Criteria
* Minimum 3+ years' experience in golf operations at a premium or luxury golf venue.
* Proven experience in golf retail management, including sales performance and merchandising.
* A genuine passion for leadership and people development.
* Strong desire to build a long-term career within the golf industry.
* Excellent communication, organisation, and guest-service skills.
Desirable Criteria
* Previous golf management or supervisory experience.
* Qualified PGA Professional/Year Three Assistant.
* Actively on the CMAE education pathway/committed to professional development.
