The Role
The Design Manager (Water/Wastewater) will lead the design and coordination of water infrastructure projects, ensuring that all technical designs meet client requirements, regulatory standards, and project timelines. This role involves managing multidisciplinary design teams, liaising with clients and stakeholders, and providing technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle from concept design to construction handover.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the design process for water infrastructure projects, including pipelines, pumping stations, reservoirs, and treatment facilities.
Coordinate internal and external design teams, ensuring compliance with project specifications, Irish Water standards, and regulatory requirements.
Prepare and review technical designs, drawings, and documentation, ensuring accuracy and constructability.
Liaise with project managers, site teams, and subcontractors to integrate design and construction activities.
Conduct design risk assessments, ensuring all health, safety, and environmental considerations are met.
Manage project design schedules, budgets, and deliverables to ensure on-time project delivery.
Support tendering and bid processes by preparing technical documentation and design inputs.
Maintain strong stakeholder relationships with clients, local authorities, and regulatory bodies.
The Candidate: Required Experience and Competencies
Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
5+ years of experience in water infrastructure design and project management.
Proven experience delivering projects in line with Irish Water or similar utility standards.
Strong knowledge of design software and tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or equivalent.
Excellent project management skills, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
Strong communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
