Senior Psychologist – St. John of God Intellectual Disability Services
Sessional psychology at the Senior Psychology level into the service for a maximum of 9 days (7 hrs per day) per week for the following period.
From the 5th of January to the 27th of March 2026
The psychologist(s) need to have experience in Intellectual Disability population (Mild, Moderate, Severe and Profound levels) with dual diagnosis (neurodiversity, mental health conditions, epilepsy, CP, dementia etc) and systems supports (staff and family teams) in terms of completing:
Positive Behaviour Support (assessment -functional assessment, analysis of ABC’s etc., development of behavioural interventions and report writing; implementation of recommendations with teams and families and review of recommendations).
Dementia Assessment (experience in a variety of direct and indirect dementia assessment tools for the above population group) and interventions approaches and management (BPSD)
Therapeutic interventions for above population group in relation to a variety of mental health difficulties, mood disorders, OCD, PTSD, complex trauma, ADHD etc
Require excellent communication skills both verbal and written, with experience working with front line staff teams, families and MDT
Location bases for psychologists are SJOG, St. Raphael’s, Celbridge and SJOG Islandbridge. Hours would be 9am – 5pm, Monday to Friday
Job responsibilities
Provide the assessments of childhood developmental difficulties, behavioural issues, support to families, risk assessment, and referral onwards if required
Conduct assessments and individual and/or group counselling/psychotherapy with clients of the service
Maintain assigned clinical caseload
The Candidate
A recognised post-graduate qualification as a psychologist
Permission to work in Ireland
Professional approach to work
Experience working in Primary care valuable but all experience considered if the candidate is able to take initiative and work autonomously.
