The Role
We are currently seeking a Trainee Accountant to join our growing practice and train towards a professional accountancy qualification (ACCA).
This is a long-term trainee role for someone who is genuinely interested in developing a career in practice and growing with our firm, not simply qualifying and moving on.
You will work closely with a qualified accountant and the practice principal, gaining hands-on experience in all aspects of running a small accountancy practice.
This is an office-based role in Cork City (not remote).
Study & Training
The successful candidate will be supported to complete their ACCA qualification over approximately 3.5 years.
We will pay for agreed exam fees and provide structured training and mentorship.
For the first 6–12 months, the role can be structured as a 4-day working week, with Fridays used as study day.
Once training progresses, this will increase to full-time 5 days a week.
Key Responsibilities
Preparation of accounts for sole traders and small companies (audit exempt)
Data entry and bookkeeping
VAT, PAYE and other tax returns via ROS
Assisting with general practice administration
(emails, client communication, filing, phone queries)
Supporting senior staff with ad-hoc accounting and tax work
Candidate Requirements
Accounting Technician qualification or a completed base-level course in accountancy
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Good Excel skills (essential)
Organised, reliable and able to use initiative
Interest in accountancy as a long-term career
Good written and verbal communication skills
Working Hours
Monday – Thursday: 8:00am – 4:30pm
Friday: 8:00am – 2:00pm (study day during first year)
Option of 4-day week for the first 6–12 months.
Salary & Package for 5 day working week
€24,500 total package in Year 1, comprising:
Base salary: €22,500
ACCA exam fees contribution: €2,000
Salary will be reviewed regularly as studies and responsibilities progress.
