We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Software Engineer – Integration to lead multiple development teams in designing, building, and delivering complex, high-quality software solutions at scale. This role combines deep technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, ensuring that systems are robust, scalable, and adhere to best practices. You will set the technical vision, guide architecture decisions, and drive continuous improvement across integration and development processes.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Design
* Specify, design, and review large or complex software applications, components, and modules.
* Perform impact analysis on major design decisions, assess risks, and make informed recommendations.
* Ensure system designs comply with standards and take corrective action where necessary.
* Lead the adoption of integration patterns, automation, and continuous integration practices.
* Partner with architecture teams to design and validate complex solutions, including proof of concepts.
Software Development & Standards
* Take technical ownership across all stages of the development lifecycle.
* Define and promote development standards, policies, and best practices (including security, testing, and configuration management).
* Select, implement, and optimise tools and methodologies at programme, project, and team levels.
People Management & Capability Building
* Lead, mentor, and coach engineering teams, providing feedback to drive performance and growth.
* Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture that supports employee wellbeing and motivation.
* Identify skill gaps and drive professional development, commissioning learning resources where needed.
Stakeholder Engagement & Continuous Improvement
* Build strong relationships with stakeholders to understand and address communication needs.
* Identify opportunities for capability improvement across technology, skills, and processes.
* Promote knowledge sharing and collaborative working practices across teams.
Skills & Expertise
Technical
* Extensive hands-on experience in API development at scale.
* Expert in Java and Spring technologies (Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Data JPA/JDBC, Spring Cloud Stream).
* Strong skills in RESTful API design, JUnit 5, and Mockito.
* Proven knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, TDD, BDD, and software design patterns (especially for event-driven architectures and integration).
* Proficient in OAuth2, OIDC, JWT, RabbitMQ/Kafka, LDAP, MongoDB/Oracle, Docker, Kubernetes, API Gateway, and microservices/event-driven systems.
* Strong object-oriented design (OOD) skills and architectural experience.
* Experience with Qlik Replicate/CDC is desirable.

* Strong leadership, negotiation, and influence skills.
* Problem-solving mindset with a track record of innovative solutions.
* Ability to mentor and grow engineering talent through reviews and coaching.
* Outcome-focused with a passion for building scalable, well-designed software.
Qualifications & Experience
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
* 10+ years’ enterprise software engineering experience, covering the full development lifecycle.
* Proven history of delivering complex software projects within agreed timeframes and quality standards.
* Experience working in agile, cross-functional teams.
