If you can design a mechanical system, understand the critical equipment needs for a data centre, and grasp constructability of varying designs, you may be a good fit.About AIS – AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of AWS global infrastructure, keeping the cloud running across data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure continual access for our customers.Key responsibilities Be a leader within the group as well as within internal and external teams that support our data centres. Work with internal teams to understand user requirements. Participate in site selection reviews. Manage design consultancy firms to create, review and release data center designs. Manage change, versioning and configuration control. Work with local utilities to understand and define site utility requirements. Define and approve project scopes, requests for proposals (RFP) and information (RFI). Work with local Agencies Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) to ensure compliance with city/county requirements and building codes. Collaborate with commissioning teams to validate installation, operation, and performance of systems. Work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions. Travel for site reviews and conduct engineering evaluations, audits, and site launches. Review and approve equipment submittals. Troubleshoot problems and conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective Action (CA) for design related issues. Define project scopes and provide support during construction phases. Collaborate with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify appropriate mechanical equipment. Flexible work hours and arrangements are part of our culture to support you in achieving success at work and at home.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering and several years of experience with mission critical air and water cooling HVAC design. Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities. Ability to carry new design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment/construction. The ability to perform complex business case analysis to justify technical decisions and present the justification to management in a high level review.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Chartered Engineer with Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Experience directly related to data center or mission critical facility design such as Pharmaceutical, Hospital or Semiconductor projects. Understanding of BIM & CFD modelling. Negotiation and management experience with design, construction and project execution. Experience with fast track design/build projects or multiple significant upgrade projects. Experience with large scale technical operations or large-scale compute farms. Knowledge of building codes and regulations.Amazon is an equal opportunities employer.
