Senior Training & Development Specialist

Role: Senior Training & Development Specialist

An excellent opportunity has arisen for the position of Senior Training & Development Specialist within the company.

Reporting to the Head of Section for Training and Initiatives the main purpose of the Senior Training and Development Specialist role is to manage co-ordinate, administer develop and execute training strategies to industry best practice and operational efficiency in a modern underground trackless mining operation while ensuring safety, regulatory compliance (e.g., Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Mines) Regulations 2018).

The successful candidate will be appointed as the statutory safety trainer officer under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Mines) Regulations 2018 and work closely with the Health and Safety Authority ("HSA") and the Health and Safety Department within Boliden Tara Mines.

The successful candidate will deliver a mines training scheme, support safety inductions, competence assessments and ongoing training, record keeping and where necessary supporting Rescue and Emergency Training. Key duties include but not limited to managing on-the-job training (OJT), developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), evaluating competency, and fostering a strong safety culture. The Senior Training and Development Specialist will be expected to work closely with the Mine Manager, Heads of Sections, Supervisors and relevant stakeholders on the development and stewardship of a comprehensive Training Plan delivered safely and efficiently.

The successful applicant will work, co-ordinate and lead in a way that supports Boliden Tara's core values of Care, Courage & Responsibility.

Your Job – your tasks will include:

* Develop and document a training management program ("training scheme") for the Mine department, considering operational needs of the department.

* Establish the current operational training baseline for the Mining Department.

* Develop weekly/monthly training plans for the Mining Department.

* Identify training resource constraints and work with department managers to address same.

* Schedule and co-ordinate all external training such as OEM training to ensure optimised use of resources and minimise impact on operations.

* Assist where necessary with training employees on procedures where appropriate.

* Develop and Maintain training database / matrix and generate progress reports by section at regular intervals.

* Audit the Training system bi-monthly and follow corrective actions where necessary.

* Specific projects relating to training as determined by the Mine Manager.

* Managing and development of training budget.

* Manage, mentor, and develop trainers and experienced employees to provide coaching to the workforce.

* Show safety leadership; enforce safety and environmental policies to minimize risks and prevent incidents.

* Assist in emergency preparedness drills.

Experience & Qualifications

* 10 years + experience in underground trackless mining training essential.

* Experience in underground operational supervisory role necessary.

* International experience and exposure to various underground hard rock operations highly valued.

* Shift Boss ticket essential

* Requirement for training skills certificate QQI Level 6 or equivalent.

* International general certificate or diploma in OH&S highly valued.

* Deep understanding and proven track record of underground mining equipment, including but not limited to, LHD's, Trucks, Long Hole and Development drills, bolters, shotcrete, cable bolting, mechanised scalers, utility vehicles and service installations.

* Experience of developing training schedules, training plans and training database management.

* Effective communication skills both verbal and written

* Influencing and computer literacy skills are essential.

* People coaching skills - motivating and maintaining standards

* Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills

* A desire for creativity and innovation as it is important for the function to be continuously improving

* You have a flexible approach to work, are open and accepting of necessary change and innovation within the company.
