Job Description
Civil Engineers design and develop infrastructure projects, such as water treatment plants, pipelines, and pumping stations. They must be able to balance the needs of various stakeholders while ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet safety standards.
Responsibilities include:
* Conducting site inspections to identify potential issues with construction, access, and existing services
* Supervising sub-contractors and recording relevant site information
* Ensuring that all necessary health, safety, quality, and environment (HSQE) documentation is in place for each project
* Source quotations from suppliers/sub-contractors and providing input to cost estimation
* Liaising with other engineers to ensure civil designs integrate with process requirements
* Participating in multidisciplinary design reviews and meetings to align civil works with other disciplines
* Providing input to identify health & safety risks at early design stage
* Liaising with procurement team to raise purchase orders
* Attending civil/structural design meetings with consultants
Required Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of civil engineering principles and their application to water and wastewater infrastructure. They should also have:
* Familiarity with relevant UE design standards, codes, and guidance
* Awareness of geotechnical considerations, including foundations, ground conditions, settlement, etc.
* Understanding of construction methods, constructability issues, and sequencing at a preliminary stage
* Health and safety awareness and risk management skills
* Technical design skills, including ability to prepare conceptual layouts, GA drawings, pipe layouts, etc.
* CAD/BIM proficiency, with experience using tools such as AutoCAD and BIM360
* Collaboration and coordination skills, with ability to work closely with other engineers
* Strong communication skills, with ability to produce clear design reports, technical notes, presentations, etc.
* Risk awareness and ability to identify and communicate key design and construction risks early in the process
* Previous involvement in similar water and wastewater projects
