About the Role
The Commercial Underwriter plays a key role in underwriting small to medium-sized Property, Liability, Miscellaneous, and Commercial Combined risks for both broker and direct clients. The position involves assessing, pricing, and managing risk in line with underwriting appetite, while delivering a high standard of service to clients and supporting broader underwriting and business objectives.
The role also includes a small element of consumer underwriting, covering core personal lines such as Motor, Home, and Personal Accident for both direct and broker channels.
Key Responsibilities
1. Underwrite and manage Property, Liability, Commercial Combined, and Miscellaneous risks for small to medium-sized direct and broker clients.
2. Manage a designated portfolio of clients with a measured and pragmatic approach.
3. Evaluate, price, and underwrite Motor, Home, and Personal Accident risks.
4. Take ownership and accountability for underwriting decisions in line with delegated authority and risk appetite.
5. Apply disciplined risk assessment to support sustainable portfolio performance.
6. Ensure accuracy and clarity in policy wordings and endorsements to maintain contract certainty.
7. Build and maintain effective relationships with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders.
8. Support senior underwriters and contribute to team objectives.
Requirements
9. CIP qualification (or equivalent) with membership of the Insurance Institute of Ireland.
10. 3–5 years of experience in Commercial and Consumer Lines insurance.
11. Strong technical knowledge across Commercial and Personal Lines products.
12. Strong analytical and numeracy skills.
13. Excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines.
14. Proactive approach, flexibility, and strong work ethic.
