SENIOR ELECTRICAL PROJECT ENGINEER
Our client, a growing organisation operating within the renewable energy and solar engineering sector, is seeking a Senior Electrical Project Engineer to join their solar division. This is a key technical and project delivery role, offering real ownership, influence, and long-term progression within a rapidly expanding business.
The position is based in Tipperary, with a mix of office‑based work, site visits, and flexible working‑from‑home options. Candidates must be commutable from Tipperary, Kilkenny, or Limerick.

The Role
The Senior Electrical Project Engineer - Solar will act as the internal technical authority for solar PV electrical engineering while managing projects from contract award through to final handover.
Key responsibilities include:

Owning and leading the electrical design of commercial and industrial solar PV projects, including rooftop, ground‑mounted, and hybrid systems.
Producing and reviewing single line diagrams, layouts, calculations, cable sizing, protection studies, earthing, and grid compliance documentation.
Acting as Project Engineer, managing safety, quality, programme, subcontractors, and technical delivery.
Coordinating and managing electrical and civil subcontractors on site.
Chairing site meetings and ensuring actions are tracked and closed.
Managing technical changes and variations in collaboration with commercial teams.
Ensuring full compliance with Irish and EU standards, ESB Networks requirements, and relevant codes of practice.
Overseeing inspections, testing, commissioning, and certification.
Supporting tendering and pre‑contract activity with strong technical input and risk identification.

This is a hands‑on senior role with full accountability for engineering outcomes and project success.
The Person
Our client is seeking candidates who:

Hold a degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Have 4‑5 years post‑qualification experience, with strong exposure to solar PV projects.
Have proven experience managing projects on site, including subcontractors.
Possess a strong understanding of ESB Networks grid connection processes and Irish compliance requirements.
Have working knowledge of HV & MV switchgear and transformers within commercial or utility‑scale solar installations.
Are familiar with HSE legislation and PSDP / PSCS obligations.
Are confident making decisions, owning outcomes, and challenging constructively when required.

The Package

Salary: €60,000 - €70,000 (DOE)
Pension: Company contributory pension
Contract: Full‑time, permanent
Working Style: Office‑based, site visits, and flexible WFH options
Other: Strong long‑term progression and visibility within the business

Location
Tipperary (Candidates must be based in or commutable from Tipperary, Kilkenny, or Limerick)
