Position Description
The School Psychologist is directly responsible for the psychological assessment of academic, social, emotional, and behavioral domains using problem‑solving and standardized evaluations. The psychologist monitors case study evaluations, participates in Individual Education Plan (IEP) conferences and problem‑solving meetings, and designs systems, programs and services that maximize students' social, emotional, and educational success. In collaboration with staff, families, students, and community partners, the psychologist promotes effective educational environments.
Primary Qualifications
Fully licensed to serve as a school psychologist
Knowledge of special education rules and regulations
Experience working with students who manifest a wide range of abilities
Position Responsibilities
Implement and instruct the established Grosse Pointe Curriculum, incorporating culturally diverse themes
Collect data and provide systematic observations for students experiencing emotional, learning, or attention problems in the classroom
Conduct extensive student psychological evaluations and reevaluations
Interpret psychological data for Multi‑Disciplinary Teams, Individual Education Planning Teams, teachers, professionals, and parents
Provide interventions and make recommendations to assist high‑risk students in the classroom
Effectively work in a team with staff from various disciplines and with parents
Show outstanding evaluation/diagnostic skills in learning disabilities, emotional impairments, autism spectrum disorders, and cognitive impairments
Demonstrate strength in behavioral assessments and intervention planning
Independently and accurately implement the requirements of IDEA and Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE)
Maintain outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
Physical Demands
Prolonged periods standing and walking throughout school and classroom
Ability to lift up to 45 pounds at a time
Occasional bending, kneeling, sitting, standing, and climbing stairs
Prolonged periods sitting and working on the computer to complete necessary paperwork
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Compensation
Salary is based on the GPEA CBA, which may or may not recognize previous professional teaching experience. GPEA Members are eligible for a comprehensive and competitive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, life, and long‑term disability insurance, and membership in the Michigan Public Schools Employee Retirement System.
