Care of Residents
Carry out all relevant forms of care, based on evidence and without direct supervision.
Ensure that all care delivered is of the highest standard, as promised and expected by the Care Facility.
Treat all residents with dignity and respect, involving them in the planning and delivery of their care, where possible.
Interpret the significance of clinical observations and records and make a decision as to the action required.
Report promptly to medical staff where action required falls outside the remit of nursing responsibilities.
Assist medical staff and ascertain medical treatments, where required.
Provide support for relatives and others involved with our residents.
Supervisory Responsibility
Supervise the work of Care Assistants.
Check and witness the administration of drugs according to Policy (An Bord Altranais 2000).
Take charge of the Care Facility when the only Staff Nurse on duty.
Maintain Records/Provide Updates
Maintain clear and up-to-date records of residents' progress, whilst ensuring the utmost confidentiality.
Provide updates on residents, as and when necessary, to the Director of Nursing.
Report any complaints of mishandling or abuse of residents to the Director of Nursing immediately and assist in the investigation, if requested.
Comply with Policies/Procedures
Maintain familiarity and comply with all Care Facility policies and procedures.
Comply with all safety regulations in accordance with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and maintain a hazard-free environment.
Report all incidents and accidents involving self, residents or visitors to the Director of Nursing (or the Staff Nurse in charge)
Complete Accident Forms, when necessary.
Contribute to the formation and implementation of Care Facility policies and procedures. Initiate and develop new ideas and methods within the Care Facility and encourage staff participation.
Code of Conduct
Adhere to An Bord Altranais Code of Professional Conduct.
Maintain appearance and behaviour in keeping with a member of the Nursing profession.
Ongoing Training/Meetings
Attend in-service training, as required.
Remain informed of clinical developments and nursing trends and encourage others to do the same.
Take personal responsibility for your own professional development and updating.
Attend meetings, as and when directed.
Perform such other duties as appropriate to the post, as may be assigned to you from time to time by the Staff Nurse/ Director of Nursing or such other designated person.
