Job Title: Senior Automation Engineer – Manufacturing Systems
Location: Cork, Ireland
Duration: Contract through September 2026
Working Hours: 39 hours per week
Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to lead and support the implementation, optimisation, and maintenance of manufacturing automation systems at a highly regulated, advanced manufacturing facility. This role is central to ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and compliance of both new and existing automated equipment and systems, supporting the site's broader manufacturing, quality, and operational objectives.
The successful candidate will have experience managing and delivering automation projects in a regulated environment, with a strong understanding of PLC programming, system validation, and manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the installation, commissioning, and validation of control systems and manufacturing equipment.
* Assess existing systems for reliability and compliance; recommend and implement system upgrades or enhancements as required.
* Develop and maintain comprehensive automation documentation, including specifications, SOPs, and project deliverables.
* Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and internal quality standards.
* Deliver automation-related project milestones within scope, timeline, and budget parameters.
* Collaborate with internal stakeholders, vendors, and contractors to ensure successful project execution.
* Evaluate project changes and support impact assessments related to time, cost, and resources.
* Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers within the automation team.
* Support audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews as a subject matter expert in automation systems.
* Promote a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
Candidate Profile
* Honours degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical discipline.
* Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the life sciences, pharmaceutical, or medical device industries.
* Proficiency in PLC programming and control systems.
* Proven track record in delivering automation projects within a regulated environment.
* Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
* Strong understanding of manufacturing quality systems (GMP or equivalent).
* Experience in computer system validation (CSV).
* Exposure to manufacturing execution systems (MES) or other plant-level software platforms.
* Experience with database configuration and support.
* Familiarity with IT network infrastructure in support of automation systems.
