Overview
Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) role at Inis Environmental Consultants Ltd. The company is seeking to recruit a full-time Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) to join the growing Ecology team. Roles can be based in Ennis, Cork or Dublin offices.
Inis Environmental Consultants is a specialist ecological services and environmental consultancy. The company works on projects across terrestrial, marine, and freshwater environments and is part of the RSK Group.
Key Responsibilities
* Advise on protecting valued biodiversity features on construction sites.
* Provide practical, site-specific, and proportionate assistance to achieve compliance with environmental legislation.
* Review documents such as AA/NIS, EcIA, CEMP, and species and habitat management plans.
* Consult with local planning authorities, Biodiversity Officers, National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), and Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI).
* Pre-construction and construction phase checks for protected species.
* Provide an ecological watching brief during vegetation clearance, building renovation or demolition, habitat translocation, habitat creation, enhancement, and management works.
* Daily record keeping, signing off construction documents, and producing reports as required for auditing purposes.
Essential Qualifications
* A third-level qualification in environmental science, zoology, ecology, or a similar discipline.
* A minimum of 3 years of work experience on ecological projects, ideally involving practical conservation advice or management.
* An awareness and understanding of Irish and EU environmental protection and wildlife legislation and planning guidelines.
* Excellent communication skills, including face-to-face discussions with clients and contractors, as well as verbal and written communication.
* Full driving licence and willingness to travel to sites.
Desirable Qualifications
* Proven experience as an ECoW or in a similar field-based ecological role.
* Knowledge of construction management, civil engineering and project management.
* Membership of CIEEM or AEnvCoW, or ability to attain membership within three months of appointment.
* Excellent IT skills.
