Senior Maintenance Technician – Wastewater Treatment Plant

Role Overview
The Senior Maintenance Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a modern wastewater treatment facility. This hands-on position involves leading preventative and corrective maintenance activities, troubleshooting mechanical and automated systems, and supporting ongoing improvements across plant operations.
The successful candidate will act as a senior technical resource within the maintenance team, contributing to equipment reliability, plant performance, and compliance with environmental and safety regulations. This role offers clear career progression toward a Maintenance Manager position for a motivated and experienced tradesperson.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Reliability
* Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on pumps, valves, gearboxes, conveyors, and other essential plant equipment.
* Diagnose faults and implement effective solutions across mechanical, electrical, and automation systems.
* Lead equipment upgrades, modifications, and installation projects in collaboration with engineering and operations teams.
* Maintain accurate maintenance documentation using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Technical Support & Continuous Improvement
* Serve as a senior technical point of contact for maintenance and operations personnel.
* Lead or support root cause analysis, reliability initiatives, and performance improvement activities.
* Participate in asset care planning and the development of maintenance strategies.
* Ensure all work is completed in compliance with health, safety, and environmental procedures.
Leadership & Collaboration
* Provide guidance, mentorship, and training support to apprentices and junior technicians.
* Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous learning within the maintenance department.
* Work closely with operations, process, and environmental teams to optimise plant performance and maintain regulatory compliance.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
* Minimum of 3–5 years' experience in a heavy industrial, utilities, or wastewater treatment environment.
* Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding capabilities in mechanical and/or automation systems.
* Hands-on experience with pumps, motors, gearboxes, pneumatics, hydraulics, and control systems.
* Strong organisational, communication, and teamwork skills with demonstrated leadership ability.
* Full, clean driving licence and valid work authorisation for Ireland.
Desirable
* Previous experience in a supervisory or team lead position.
* Safety certifications such as Safe Pass, Manual Handling, First Aid, Confined Space Entry, or Working at Height.
* Familiarity with SCADA, PLCs, or Building Management Systems (BMS).
* Experience with boilers, CHP systems, biogas operations, and low/medium-voltage electrical systems.
* Competence in using CMMS platforms or digital maintenance tools.
